About the Major Taylor Convention, formerly the
Major Taylor Invitational

Come and Ride With Us!

Marshall Walter "Major" Taylor was the first African American World Champion Cyclist who has been lost in history. In 1979, the first Major Taylor cycling club was formed in Columbus, Ohio. Twenty-one years ago, the Major Taylor cycling club invited the Metro Atlanta cycling club to join them for a three-day cycling excursion in the Smoky Mountains. That was the beginning of the Major Taylor Mountain Summit.

Major Taylor Cycling has grown in the past 44 years to an estimated 90 clubs worldwide. The 2022 Major Taylor Invitational was the first major gathering of Major Taylor clubs. In 2023, The Invitational was renamed the Major Taylor Convention. It has been created to bring Major Taylor clubs worldwide for three days of riding, educational seminars, health and wellness, and fellowship. We ride in the tradition of the Mountain Summit without all the hills. The Convention also allows leadership and membership to share ideas and resources to grow the Major Taylor brand.
